After a one-year hiatus, GhanaFest® is returning to Washington Park, bringing one of the Midwests largest and longest-running African cultural festivals back to Chicago for its 37th year.

Presented by the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GhanaFest will take place Saturday, July 25, welcoming thousands of attendees for a full day of Ghanaian food, music, fashion, arts, business, cultural traditions and community celebration. The festival has grown from a small community gathering into one of the nations premier Ghanaian cultural festivals, creating a vibrant space for cultural preservation, entrepreneurship and connection across generations.

This years celebration began with a historic milestone. On July 1, the City of Chicago hosted its first Ghana flag-raising ceremony at Daley Plaza in observance of Ghana Republic Day, formally launching the GhanaFest season and recognizing the contributions of Chicagos Ghanaian community.

For nearly four decades, GhanaFest has offered Chicagoans a window into Ghanaian heritage while also reflecting the growing influence of the citys African diaspora. What takes place at Washington Park is more than a festival. It is a gathering of families, artists, business owners, cultural leaders and community members who continue to build bridges between Ghana, Chicago and the broader African world.

Festivalgoers can expect authentic Ghanaian cuisine, traditional and contemporary music, fashion, art, vendors and cultural programming throughout the day. Local entrepreneurs and small businesses will also be part of the celebration, using the festival as a platform to reach new audiences and showcase products, services and creative work rooted in culture and community.

The evening concert will be headlined by award-winning Ghanaian recording artist Kofi Kinaata, presented by PassportPay. His appearance adds international star power to this years festival and is expected to be one of the highlights of the day.

GhanaFests return also tells a larger story about immigration, identity, business and cultural preservation in Chicago. As African immigrant communities continue to expand their presence across the city, events like GhanaFest offer a visible reminder of how culture travels, takes root and strengthens the places where it is shared.

Through food, music, art, commerce and tradition, GhanaFest continues to celebrate Ghanaian identity while inviting the wider Chicago community to take part in the experience.
