Property owners in six townships have until Sept. 29 to challenge their 2026 assessments through the Cook County Board of Review.

Cook County property owners in six townships can now file appeals of their 2026 property tax assessments through the Cook County Board of Review.

The second group of townships opened for filing Aug. 31 and includes Berwyn, Cicero, Elk Grove, Lakeview, Maine and Palos. Property owners who believe their assessed value is inaccurate have until Sept. 29 to submit an appeal.

The Board of Review serves as the second level of appeal in Cook Countys property assessment process and provides an independent review of assessments. There is no fee to file an appeal, and all 38 Cook County townships will have an opportunity to file during the 2026 appeal season.

Appeals can be filed online through the Cook County Board of Review, through an attorney or authorized tax representative, or in person at 118 N. Clark St. in Chicago. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Property owners may also use the Boards pre-file option before their township officially opens. Once a township enters its regular filing period, however, the pre-file period for that township ends.

The Board processed a record 290,533 property tax appeals during the 2025 tax year, according to the agency.

Property owners in Berwyn, Cicero, Elk Grove, Lakeview, Maine and Palos should submit appeals by Sept. 29. Filing information and educational resources are available through the Cook County Board of Review.
