Praise and worship take center stage once again as the Chicago Gospel Music Festival returns for its 41st year on Saturday, July 12, at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Since its founding in 1985, the festival has been a beloved fixture in Chicago’s summer cultural calendar — celebrating the city’s profound influence on gospel music with performances that uplift, inspire, and unite. The 2025 edition promises to carry on that tradition with a stellar lineup led by Grammy Award-winning artist Chandler Moore, best known for his deeply moving worship songs like “What I Needed.”
Presented by Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), this free, all-day event honors Chicago as the birthplace of gospel music — a genre rooted in the city's churches and still thriving today. With his signature blend of contemporary worship and emotional authenticity, Moore’s headline performance is set to deliver an unforgettable experience in the heart of downtown.
The Chicago Gospel Music Festival is a profound reflection of our city’s cultural richness and spiritual resilience,” said Mayor Johnson. “Gospel music was born in Chicago and continues to offer healing, joy and unity across generations and borders. I look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to this important celebration of music, history, and community.”
2025 Lineup Highlights
In addition to Moore, this year’s dynamic lineup includes:
A special moment during the festival will feature a Mayoral Proclamation honoring Don Jackson, founder of the Stellar Awards and a pioneering figure in gospel music media.
Opening Showcase: Chicago Choirs & More
The day kicks off at noon at Cloud Gate (The Bean) with the Chicago Choirs & More Showcase, celebrating the strength and spirit of local choirs and community performers. This energizing opening segment reinforces the festival’s commitment to elevating both emerging and established voices in gospel music.
