As Americans love to say, these days, “For the first time in American history a former President has been formally indicted on 7 counts, including, “Conspiracy to obstruct justice,” “willful retention of secret documents,” and most likely, “making false statements.”
Yes, former President Donald Trump was recently indicted in New York City Sexual Assault case involving E. Jean Carroll upon which a $5 million dollar jury verdict that found Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll ended in victory for the plaintiff and adamant denial by Trump. Trump has since gone on publicly to deny any wrongdoing, continues to claim that it’s all a witch hunt against him. Equally shameful is that his lawyers stated that the amount was "grossly excessive," and he should either get a new trial or have to pay less in damages because the jurors did not find by a"preponderance of the evidence" that Trump had raped Carroll — only that he had sexually abused her. Never mind that you can’t redo the trial because they want to, there must be probable cause established in the legal realm of the law. Trump walked away and onto a CNN Republican Town Hall, moderated by Kaitlan Collins and a live audience St. Anselm College in New Hampshire, the very next day after the verdict. Here, he professed his innocence.
TRUMPS GAME
Earlier Thursday Trump wrote on’ Truth Social’ that he had been informed by the Justice department that he was indicted and that the was summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3PM
But Thursday evening, June 8, 2023, DonaldJ Trump was indicted by the Federal government brought to fore by Jack Smith, Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice. Already setting precedence in his move to indict the former President based on evidence came as a surprise to the Trump party.
Trump released a video immediately to get a jump start on the news. On video he said,
“I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM. I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States, who received far more votes than any sitting President in the History of our Country, and is currently leading, by far, all Candidates, both Democrat and Republican, in Polls of the 2024
Presidential Election. I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!”
THIS IS DIFFERENT
Like all of Trump’s off script rhetoric he did not present facts. First, he states that he received notice of the indictment from President Biden’s administration. He did not receive it from the White House f because the Biden’s staff is not involved in the legal matters of Trump. The indictment is the result of Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s mishandling of classified documents. Apparently, his findings warrant an indictment of 7 counts. The news quickly established a separation from the indictment and the Biden camp by reporting that Attorney General Merrick Garland did not approve the indictment presented by Jack Smith. It was a very clear statement that the indictment had no political ties. And most powerfully is that Jack Smith is not affiliated with nor declared a Republican or Democrat. Such realities, however, continue to be twisted and manipulated as the Trump troops lash out.
Trump is facing a charge under the Espionage Act, as well as charges of 'obstruction justice, destruction or falsification of records, conspiracy, and false statements.' These serious charges have Trump in uncharted waters. None of his talking-over, out talking people and spreading repetitious lies over and over according to numerous political pundits, will not save him from the mess he’s made of his case. He kept talking and is still talking. His admittance on tape reveals that what he denied, is in fact not true. He stated that he did not intentionally take Top Secret classified documents, that instead he had declassified them, so he didn’t realize that he had taken classified documents. Yet on a tape, he is heard saying that he understood clearly that the documents were classified. We can only assume that there is more ‘telling’ information that corroborates and justifies the 7 counts brought against him and that Jack Smith has this under control.
